UO journalism student Sam Polloway co-authored a lead story for the Vienna Review, while participating in the AHA Journalism in Vienna program, spring term.

The article entitled Sick of Austerirty: The Crisis in EU Health Care describes the outcomes of many austerity measures and civil unrest in southern Europe.

The Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship program announced the fall 2013 and Academic Year scholarships recipients. Once more, the University of Oregon ranks among the highest producers of Gilman Scholars with nine recipients for fall 2013, tying for 8th in the country.

The UO tied with University of Wisconsin Madison, University of Minnesota Twin Cities, Central Washington University and California State University Monterey Bay, yet outperformed institutions such as Oregon State University, University California Los Angeles, and San Diego State University.

Steve and Dale, recipients of the Internet2 President’s Leadership Award at the Internet2 Annual Meeting, are onto their next adventure in Africa in May, June and July. They were recognized at the Annual Meeting in front of more than 800 attendees for their exceptional global leadership in enabling the deployment of networks in developing nations in support of research and education at the margins.

Two UO students, Alexander Payne and Benjamen DoVale have been selected as recipients of the prestigious David L. Boren Scholarship as part of the National Security Education Program (NSEP).

The scholarship will provide support for their participation in study abroad programs during the 2013-14 academic year.

Payne, a double major in economics and international studies, will be studying Arabic language and diplomacy & policy at the University of Jordan in Amman.

Helping others has always been a focal point of Lindy Mabuya’s life.  ”I think that my innate need to help others is due to how I was raised. I was always encouraged, above all, to do what you can, and that’s just always stuck — I always want to help and I always want to do more,” she said.
