Traveling across the world to share knowledge in a foreign place is an impressive undertaking.

The Gabon-Oregon Center recently launched a training workshop in scientific English at the GOC’s English Language Laboratory in Libreville. In the first class, nine students from a diverse range of Gabonese institutions and organizations were chosen with the objective of improving the competence in the English language specifically focused on the needs of scientific researchers. Also highlighted were writing techniques that will maximize acceptance of academic scientific articles by relevant Anglophone journals.

In the wake of the recent terror attacks in France, Lebanon, Iraq, and Mali, many in the UO community have become increasingly aware of how an international event can impact Eugene and our students studying abroad.

EUGENE, Oregon (December 1, 2015) – The University of Oregon is ranked 9th in the country for Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship recipients for spring 2016 programs.

Out of 11 Gilman scholarship applicants from the UO, five received the award. This is a 45% success rate, which is higher than the national average of one award in three applicants.

UO’s President Schill attended a Thanksgiving gathering of international students at a local Eugene residence. The welcoming hosts were Paul and Susie Harvey, a long-time host family affiliated with the local nonprofit Friendship Foundation for International Students (FFIS). The Harveys host an annual Thanksgiving bash, opening their home to all of their past international students they have hosted over the years. This year, ten countries were represented among the attendees.

The Office of International Affairs (OIA) would like to congratulate international faculty and staff on their years of service to the UO community.
