SINGAPORE, June 7 (Reuters) - As a marathon runner with ambitions of winning the gold medal at the Southeast Asian Games, Soh Rui Yong spent months preparing himself to combat Singapore's stifling humidity.

The Walo garden site now has a fully installed solar water pumping system! Omar Ndiaye Seck, CREATE!’s Country Representative in Senegal, is immensely proud of the accomplishments of CREATE!’s technicians, who worked with volunteers from Walo to complete the installation. Seck and his colleagues were even able to source all needed materials, including solar panels, the well pump, and customized installation equipment, from distributors and artisans located in Senegal. What an achievement!
 

EUGENE, Oregon (June 3, 2015) – The University of Oregon received six Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarships for fall and year-long study abroad students.

The UO now ranks eleventh nationally out of 332 colleges and universities across the U.S. in the highly competitive scholarship that helps students cover the costs of their study abroad program, research or internship.

Twenty staff members from the Office of International Affairs traveled to Boston, Massachusetts for the 2015 National Association of Foreign Student Advisers (NAFSA) Conference this week. Representatives from International Student and Scholar Services are meeting with partner institutions and study abroad staff are unveiling GEO (Global Education Oregon), the merger of AHA International and UO Study Abroad.

EUGENE, Oregon (Originally published May 4, 2015, updated June 24) – A cohort of 13 University of Oregon students have been awarded Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarships to fund their respective Summer 2015 study abroad programs.

The UO now ranks twelfth nationally out of 332 colleges and universities across the U.S. in the highly competitive scholarship that helps students cover the costs of their study abroad program, research or internship.

UO international students have organized a vigil to remember the more than 7,000 victims of the Nepal earthquake and launch a fundraiser to help with rescue and relief efforts.

"We have more than 100 people who are coming for the vigil," says Anjani Lama, a UO international student whose village in Nepal was completely destroyed. "We have been working really hard doing fundraising for Nepal."

UO student Megan Garland has been selected as recipient of the prestigious David L. Boren Scholarship to study in China.

Garland, a double major in Chinese and International Studies, will study at Nanjing University for the first half of the year and participate in an internship related to international diplomacy the second half of the 2015-2016 school year.
