We at the Office of International Affairs were saddened to learn of the tragic losses due to the earthquake in Nepal over the weekend.

We offer our thoughts and prayers to anyone impacted by this disaster and are available to offer support to any international students who may wish to talk, or have any concerns.

Dennis Galvan
Vice Provost for International Affairs

The White House is charging the nation to take ownership in ending sexual violence with the “It’s On Us” campaign. It’s on us to ask for consent; it’s on us to prevent, it’s on us to intervene; it’s on us to support survivors; it’s on us to create a culture of respect and stop sexual assault.

This is a pivotal time at the University of Oregon.

With a new governing board, capital campaign and strategic planning effort, this great university is about to secure its rightful place among the institutions that embody academic excellence.

We welcome the next president of the University of Oregon, Michael H. Schill, JD.

Mr. Schill comes to us from the University of Chicago where he has been the dean and Harry N. Wyatt Professor of Law since 2010. We are ecstatic that Mike will join the University of Oregon community on July 1, 2015.

Sara Clark has been selected for the Collaborator of the Year award by the UO Career Center in recognition of her extraordinary collaboration and support of the career development of UO students and alumni.

The UO African Studies Program announced a $250-$500 scholarship for students participating in a faculty-led study abroad program in Africa (Zanzibar, Dakar and Media in Ghana) this summer. The scholarship is available to all undergraduates who are pursuing a minor in African Studies.

Applications are due Friday, April 3rd by 5pm. Scholarship recipients will be notified late April.

Professor Lynn Stephen has received the 2015 Delmos Jones and Jagna Scharff Memorial Book Award from the Society for the Anthropology of North America for her book, "We are the Face of Oaxaca: Testimony and Social Movements".

UO Vice Provost for International Affairs Dennis Galvan met mid-February with colleagues from around the world for the 2015 Association of International Education Administrators (AIEA) conference, in Washington, DC.

While international students are away from home, there are many obstacles for them to overcome during their four years college life, such as language barriers and culture shock. As two seniors and international students, Mandy and Hailin initiated a project called “Senior Snap” to assist international students with the transition to US college.
