The steering committee associated with the University of Oregon initiative “Genocide &

Mass Atrocities: Responsibility to Prevent” invites proposals to fulfill its mission as

stated below.

 

“Genocide and Mass Atrocities: Responsibility to Prevent” strives to harness the rich

EUGENE, Oregon (October 1, 2013) – The U.S. Department of State has awarded the University of Oregon (UO) a federal assistance grant for $1 million to advance a three-year cooperative agreement and academic partnership with Karakoram International University (KIU) in Gilgit, Pakistan.

The University of Oregon and its Office of International Student and Scholar Services (ISSS) welcomed more than 700 new international students from all over the world as part of the 2013 International Student Orientation (ISO) program.

During the course of one week, international undergraduate and graduate students get the chance to explore their new surroundings, receive academic advising, conduct placement testing, meet with other new students, and learn about cultural adjustments.  

If you happen to visit the Office of International Affairs in the next three months, you might find yourself a bit confused and bewildered, as we have begun an extensive remodeling process for the entire office.

We have literally taken down the walls of our former corridor and begun removing a series of old radiators form the south side of the office.

OIA staff has adapted well as we all hope the remodel will mark a new chapter for the office.

If you are a student visiting OIA, please forgive the mess—we are literally doing all of this for you!

A delegation of 12 representatives from the state of Baden-Württemberg in Germany will visit the University of Oregon on September 6, 2013 to expand existing programs between the two states and celebrate the 45^th anniversary of the Oregon University System (OUS) and Baden-Württemberg exchange program.

OIA's own Study Abroad Assistant Director Roger Adkins partcipated in a Q/A with Around the O, discussing his recent trip to the UK and the brand new Harry Potter Program in London.

Where in the world were you?
I was in the United Kingdom, staying in London through July 31, and then Edinburgh, Scotland, for the final week of this program.

A visit to the Lillis Business Complex cinched first-generation college student Sarah Rosencrans’ decision to attend the UO—that, and the offer of a Pioneer Award Presidential Scholarship that would allow her to graduate debt-free.

The Office of International Affairs (OIA), its International Student & Scholar Services (ISSS) and Study Abroad Programs (SA) congratulate all 5,000 graduates, especially the more than 200 international students and OIA student workers who received their degrees during the 2013 Spring Commencement Ceremony.
