Cross-Cultural Events on UO Campus

The National Science Foundation announced this week that the UO’s Network Startup Resource Center (NSRC) is the recipient of a $3,732,343 award as part of the agency’s International Research Network Connections program.

The award is the largest active NSF grant to any academic department or center at the UO.

Assistant Professors Karrie Koesel (Political Science) and Eric Priest (Law) have been selected as fellows for the 2014 Public Intellectuals Program (PIP), the flagship program of the National Committee on US-China Relations. Twenty PIP fellows were chosen from a nationally competitive pool of emerging China specialists this year and tasked with helping to bridge the gap between China specialists and the global and domestic audiences eager to better understand the important issues in US-China relations.

Every day, hundreds if not thousands of undocumented migrants, many of them children, pour through Mazatlán in Mexico’s Sinaloa state on their way to chance a border crossing into the United States, a migration that drawn the interest of UO international studies professor Kristin Yarris.

The University of Oregon (UO) will host the 6th "Engaging with Vietnam - An Interdisciplinary Dialogue" Conference, Nov. 6-7. The two-day international conference promotes the study of Vietnam and dialogue between diverse communities of Vietnam scholars.

Each year, more than 200 students (8-12 grade) attend a free weeklong summer camp on the UO campus called the Summer Academy to Inspire Learning (SAIL).

Founded in 2005, the SAIL program is led by volunteer UO faculty members and aims to increase low-income students’ enrollment and success in college.

Students are assigned to camps focused on disciplines ranging from the performing arts to biology, depending on their academic interests and career aspirations.

Three UO business students are among five finalists in the Entrepreneur of 2014 competition put on by Entrepreneur magazine.

The three are the brains behind Fourth Wall, a business concept that uses a software application to match actors to auditions. The idea was drawn up by business student Sahil Diwan with help from fellow students Anthony Rondinella and Cody Hatfield.
