There’s a maroon flag hanging from a third-story window at the Walton-Clark residence hall. The slinking fabric is the only indication Nagina Pirzad needs to locate her assignment: the Moroccan junior national track and field team. She, alongside two other women are one of 116 ambassadors from the University of Oregon who will guide the far-flung athletes around the campus and the city in the days leading up to the World Junior track and field championships.

With hundreds of young athletes from dozens of countries arriving in Eugene for the World Junior Championships track meet this week, how might the University of Oregon best promote its international reach in academia?

UO students studying abroad with AHA's in Rosario, Argentina got a chance to see soccer fans follow and celebrate Argetina's win during semifinals at the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.

Argentina beat Netherlands in penalty shootouts 4-2.

Argentina now will face Germany for the final game of the 2014 World Cup in Brazil on Sunday, July 13.

As part of the UO Global Expo and to welcome attendants to the 2014 IAAF World Junior Championships in Track & Field, the Office of International Affairs (OIA), with the help of facilities operator Michael Hanneson and his team, have dressed-up Oregon Hall with 214 flags representing the member delegations of the IAAF.

More than 2,000 international athletes from all over the world will compete in this year’s World Junior Championships to be held at historic Hayward Field, July 22-27.

University of Oregon sophomore Erik Thorbeck has been awarded a prestigious study abroad scholarship that focuses on national security and linguistics.

As a David L. Boren Scholar, Thorbeck will study in China from January to September 2015, spending one semester at Nanjing University and another semester completing an internship in the country. The scholarship is part of the National Security Education Program and is administered by the Institute of International Education. 

SINGAPORE, 27 June 2014 – Singapore Management University (SMU) and the University of Oregon (UO) USA, have entered into a five-year agreement for an international student exchange programme that will enable students from both universities to learn from the academic and sporting cultures of the two countries.

The agreement was signed today by SMU President Professor Arnoud De Meyer and University of Oregon Vice President for University Advancement Michael Andreasen.

More than 100 people, including University of Oregon students, faculty and staff, attended the inaugural Rutherford Middle East Initiative public lectures “In the Aftermath of the Arab Spring: Persistent Challenges and Questions,” on May 29.

Generation Study Abroad is a five-year initiative that seeks to double the number of U.S. students studying abroad through credit or non-credit programs. In order to be successful, Generation Study Abroad must build a coalition of likeminded organizations both within the higher education industry and beyond.

The UO Global Expo, an endeavor by the Office of International Affairs (OIA) and its Global Studies Institute (GSI), is putting the finishing touches on nearly 160 videos that will be part of an interactive display during the upcoming World Junior Track and Field Championships next month.
