As part of the University of Otago's commitment to IIE's Generation Study Abroad, it is offering study abroad applicants from the UO the opportunity to apply for one of three housing scholarships (the value of which is $4,465 NZD each) at the University of Otago in Second Semester, 2016. The deadline for Second Semester applications is April 30.

A significant gift from Aisha Almana, a UO graduate, hospital executive and prominent feminist, will create new international opportunities in education and global health at the University of Oregon.

UO Vice Provost for International Affairs, Dennis Galvan and OIA Senior Advisor for Global Partnerships, Eric Benjaminson met with U.S. Senator Jeff Merkley at Washington D.C.

The informal meet allowed the university representatives to receive feedback on UO's international strategy, discuss university engagements and successes, and to coordinate with Senator Merkley on how UO international engagement can enhance the state and advance US foreign policy goals.

A global watch is underway as the Zika virus has begun spreading throughout Central and South America and the Caribbean.

According to news reports, there have been 31 documented Zika cases in the U.S. (11 states and the District of Columbia), though in all of those cases people got infected elsewhere.

Traveling across the world to share knowledge in a foreign place is an impressive undertaking.

The Gabon-Oregon Center recently launched a training workshop in scientific English at the GOC’s English Language Laboratory in Libreville. In the first class, nine students from a diverse range of Gabonese institutions and organizations were chosen with the objective of improving the competence in the English language specifically focused on the needs of scientific researchers. Also highlighted were writing techniques that will maximize acceptance of academic scientific articles by relevant Anglophone journals.
