We send 43% of all students on life-changing, career-enhancing study abroad experiences in every part of the world. Global Education Oregon (GEO) is integral to advancing UO's mission to educate the whole person, and to fostering the next generation of transformational leaders and informed part of the global community. GEO develops and manages more than 100 global engagement programs that are vital to our students’ educational development, personal growth, and career competitiveness.

Provide scholarships for specific disciplines or location. Examples include:
Mills Scholarship: Based on financial need and academic merit. Minimum 2.5 GPA.
Smith Scholarship: Based on academic merit. Minimum 3.5 GPA.
Fulmer Scholarship: Based on academic merit. Minimum 3.5 GPA.
Melinda Tims Memorial Scholarship: Based on financial need and academic merit. Preference for service-learning and internship programs.
Susanna Gabay Study Abroad Scholarship: Based on academic merit and financial need. Preference for students in the Clark Honors College.
Dean Method Scholarship for First-Generation College Students: Based on financial need and academic merit. First-generation students only. Minimum 2.5 GPA.

What You Make Possible in GSI
Provide funding for an ongoing lecture series to bring experts to campus to help us address complex challenges and opportunities in globally focused research areas.
Examples include:
- Admiral David and Connie Jeremiah Lecture Series in the Center Asia and the Pacific Studies (CAPS)
- Myung Sup Lim Lecture Series in Korean Studies in the Center Asia and the Pacific Studies (CAPS)
- Lecture series funded by Omar Al Askari in the Islamic Studies Initiative
- Savage Endowment for International Relations and Peace, brings distinguished national and international experts to campus and to enrich the university’s offerings in the humanities and social sciences, particularly in the areas of international relations, peace, and the United Nations.
Through Global Oregon Faculty Collaboration Fund, supports UO faculty to bring top ranked researchers to the University of Oregon for research partnerships (field work, study visits, international conferences) or to Global Oregon travel for research collaborations. Examples include:
- Global Oregon Faculty Collaboration Fund supported by Jim Shephard ‘80 has supported faculty to travel to
- Law faculty to attend international law research collaboration in South America;
- Human Physiology collaboration with faculty from Max Planck Institute to conduct research brain health application;
- Political science faculty collaborating on a book about European Union in the 21st Century;
- collaboration with the University of Ghana on bioengineering and neuroscience research
- Amazon Sustainability Center Funds Brazilian postdoctoral fellows, graduate students and faculty to travel to the UO to train with UO faculty on research techniques that can be used for conservation in the Amazon Basin in Brazil Global Oregon faculty travel invitation to present scholarship of global art installation
- Future opportunities include, but not limited to funding translation and publication projects to improve mutual understanding between the US and Vietnam; new cutting-edge robotics lab to protect international and domestic security and privacy
Provide funding for graduate or undergraduate students to travel to do research in global locations or present their research at an international conference. Supports student training – and career readiness – and increase UO international reputation. Examples:
- Global Hearth Podcast student producers and audio engineering interns
- Center for Global Health student research intern in Cambodia on children’s health
- US Vietnam Research Center student researcher attend a global conference on Peace Studies
- Translation Studies Research Projects that require original translation of materials such as Nobel Prize documents and 11th Century poets
- Global Oregon projects as varied as music studies project in Kuwait, museum studies in Japan, animal health in a world of AI, and disability services in India
Publishes books of scholarly research and public interest. Examples include:

We bring the whole world to Oregon: International Student & Scholar Services (ISSS) promotes the well-being of international students and scholars through immigration expertise and holistic support. We sponsor over 800 international students and 200 visiting scholars and faculty whose contributions advance UO's global impact. Core ISSS services and programs range from pre-arrival visa and onboarding support to retention and career readiness employment.

International Student Scholarships
Provide scholarships to international students from all around the world. It costs an international student $50 - $60K per year to attend the UO. Scholarships are essential for the UO to recruit & retain international students, enrich our campus community, and bring the world to Eugene.
If you’re passionate about helping international students get through college, an endowed scholarship may be a great option. Creating an endowed scholarship helps a greater number of students than a typical scholarship would. We have different endowments which provide a range of scholarships to international students from all regions of the world. Below is a list of our endowed scholarships:

International Scholar Fellowships
Support fellowships that bring international scholars to campus and sustain those already enriching the University of Oregon community. These opportunities strengthen UO’s global impact by fostering collaboration, advancing research, and ensuring scholars from around the world have the resources to thrive and contribute. Examples of support include:
- Creating fellowships to fund international visiting professors and researchers
- Bringing guest lecturers, speakers, and scholars from underrepresented regions to campus
- Providing funding for UO faculty to invite international scholars to collaborate on issues central to the university, adding valuable global perspectives
- Establishing start-up funds for international faculty to develop GEO study abroad programs in their home countries
- Offering travel awards to support international scholars as they renew visas, visit family, attend conferences, conduct research, and maintain vital international connections
Life at Oregon
- Support cultural programming for international students & scholars to introduce them to American culture, values, and ways of life. Examples include watching sports events, visiting museums, enjoying local music & art, experiencing unique local festivals, attending speaker series and tours)
- Endow our Peer-to-Peer global buddy program which pairs up new international students with American students to support cultural integration and flourishing.
- Help international student and scholar groups to support their cultural programming and events such as Chinese New Year celebration, Africa Night, I-Week and I-Night, International Coffee Hour, Diwali, Persian Night, etc.
- Support recruitment of host families and conversation friend volunteers in collaboration with the Friendship Foundation for International Students (FFIS), a local nonprofit whose mission is to provide free short-term homestays and friendship to UO international students and scholars.
