On Monday, October 9, 2023 Interim Vice President for Student life, Kris Winters sent a message to UO Students.
Dear University of Oregon students,
The loss of life and violence in Israel and Gaza is concerning to many people in our university community. The University of Oregon stands in support of our students, staff, faculty, and alumni affected by the war. We express sympathy and compassion to the Jewish, Israeli, and Palestinian communities impacted by the war and resulting loss, suffering, and uncertainty.
We ask for all in our community to be compassionate and be aware of the impact the conflict is having on each other. Violence, hate, and prejudice must not be tolerated in any form. We are a community committed to supporting each other. Please take time to be there for one another: check-in with each other, hold space for emotions, show kindness. At this time, we recognize it may be challenging to focus on studies, work, and other aspects of everyday life. The university, through our Divisions of Student Life, Global Engagement, Equity and Inclusion, and others are here to offer support.
These are resources available:
- All students may access UO counseling services or receive after-hours support by calling the crisis line at 541-346-3227.
- International Student and Scholar Services advisors are available to talk to students, faculty and staff with ties to the region and can provide support at 541-346-3206 or intl@uoregon.edu
- If you are worried about a friend's well-being, report your concern.
Please reach out if you or someone you knows needs support.
Sincerely,
Kris Winter
