The UO welcomes new president Michael Schill to campus

This is a pivotal time at the University of Oregon.

With a new governing board, capital campaign and strategic planning effort, this great university is about to secure its rightful place among the institutions that embody academic excellence.

We welcome the next president of the University of Oregon, Michael H. Schill, JD.

Mr. Schill comes to us from the University of Chicago where he has been the dean and Harry N. Wyatt Professor of Law since 2010. We are ecstatic that Mike will join the University of Oregon community on July 1, 2015.

When the Board of Trustees began this search eight months ago, it was clear that this university needed a leader who brings to the table a creative vision, focused energy, unquestioned integrity and a passion for educating students. Mike Schill is that leader.

Prior to joining the University of Chicago, Mike served as dean of the University of California, Los Angeles School of Law from 2004 to 2009.  His career has also included tenured faculty appointments as Professor of Law and Urban Planning at New York University and Professor of Law and Real Estate at the University of Pennsylvania.

A 1980 summa cum laude graduate of Princeton, he earned his Juris Doctor from Yale Law School in 1984. In 2004, he founded the Furman Center for Real Estate and Urban Policy at New York University, which has become one of the nation’s leading research centers on housing and the built environment.

Please join us in welcoming Mike to campus during an all-campus meet-and-greet event, today from 4 to 5 p.m. in the Willamette Hall Atrium.
