Washington Post highlights UO work on child immigration

U.S. news coverage of unaccompanied immigrant children lacks quantity and quality, says Ricardo Valencia, a doctoral student in media studies at the UO.

Valencia's research is the focus of a recent article in El Tiempo Latino, a Spanish-language publication of The Washington Post.

In “Es un tema latino, pero las fuentes de la prensa en inglés no son Latinas,” Valencia, a native Salvadoran, explains how his work as a journalist at the embassy of El Salvador in Washington, D.C., inspired him to investigate how the issues of unaccompanied children were covered in the national press.
