Foreign Minister of Poland visits the UO

UO President Michael Schill enjoyed a surprise visit last week from Poland’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Witold Waszczykowski. The brief exchange at Johnson Hall was a detour for the minister before he continued his international tour.

Waszczykowski was in the U.S. for a joint ministers meeting in Washington D.C. and visited Portland to meet with Oregon Senator Ron Wyden.

Waszczykowski graduated from the University of Oregon in 1991 with a degree in international studies and began his career with the Polish Ministry of Foreign Affairs shortly after. He was elected minister of foreign affairs on November 16, 2015.

“Not much has changed,” Waszczykowski said of the UO with a smile.

The minister was accompanied by General Counsel of Poland Mariusz Brymora, Director of the Department of America at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Grzegorz Kozlowski, and Deputy Director of the Minister’s Secretariat, Rafal Perl.
