IntroductionThe Student and Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS) is an internet-based database that enables the U.S. government to track international students, scholars, and accompanying dependents in F or J visa status. SEVIS is managed by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), which is part of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS). Several different U.S. government agencies, including embassies and consulates, have access to information in SEVIS. SEVIS Fee InformationSEVIS is a fee-based program, which means that the revenue from the SEVIS I-901 Fee is used to fund the program rather than U.S. tax dollars.
The SEVIS I-901 Fee is collected by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security for the operation and maintenance of the SEVIS program. As of October 27, 2008, the SEVIS Fee for F-1 students is $200, and the SEVIS Fee for J-1 students is $180. UO does not receive any portion of this fee. You must pay the SEVIS I-901 Fee at least 3 business days before your visa interview.
More About SEVIS The University of Oregon is a certified SEVIS school and has several school officials in the office of International Affairs who are authorized to use SEVIS. I-20 and DS-2019 immigration documents for new, continuing, and returning students and scholars are created by the office of International Affairs at the University of Oregon using SEVIS. All schools in the U.S. with international students and scholars are required to use SEVIS to report accurate information online about international students and scholars, such as full name, countries of citizenship and birth, academic program or employment dates, address information, major, dependent information, departure, transfer information, and more. For students with F visas, the UO SEVIS Coordinator uses information from Duckweb to report to SEVIS. Scholars with J visas must keep the office of International Affairs updated with any of the above changes. The SEVIS Coordinator will then update the information in SEVIS. If you have questions about SEVIS, please email the SEVIS Coordinator at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it .
