If you are a J-1 exchange visitor seeking reinstatement, you may need to apply to the U.S. Department of State's Office of Education and Cultural Affairs for such approval. Contact the Exchange Coordinator in the Office of International Affairs at 541-346-3206 for information on the reinstatement filing procedure.

If you are an F-1 student needing to apply for reinstatement of your F-1 visa status, you will only be considered for reinstatement as an F-1 student if you establish:

• That the violation of status was due solely to circumstances beyond your control or that failure to reinstate you would result in extreme hardship;

• You are pursuing or will pursue a full course of study;

• You have not been employed without authorization; and

• You are not in removal proceedings.

To apply for reinstatement, please follow these steps:

1. Meet with an international student advisor in the Office of International Affairs (333 Oregon Hall) regarding your visa status and the options available to you. Schedule an appointment by calling 541-346-3206.

2. If the international student advisor recommends reinstatement, you must submit the following documents:

• Form I-539

• $300 fee, payable by personal check or money order to the Department of Homeland Security. Do not mail cash. (Effective November 23, 2010, the I-539 fee will be decreased to $290.)

• Proof of payment of SEVIS Fee (check with an international student advisor to determine if I-901 SEVIS fee is required for your reinstatement application.)

• Original Form I-94, front and back (as well as original I-94 of each person included in the application.)

• Reinstatement I-20 (Download the New Initial I-20 Request Form)

• Documentation that demonstrates your ability to pay for your studies and support yourself while you are in the U.S.
