Are you planning to return to the UO to finish your studies? Read the instructions below and be sure to submit all of the required forms. After you have submitted everything you will receive a new I-20 from the University of Oregon.

If you have been outside the U.S. for MORE than 5 months:

  1. You need a new initial I-20 (with a new SEVIS ID). Please fill out and submit the Reenrollment I-20 Request Form on-line. As part of this form you will need to submit a copy of a recent bank statement (you or your family member) showing that you have enough funds for one academic year (2010-2011 Estimated Expenses). If you plan to graduate after one or two terms, you only need to have enough funds for one or two terms.
  2. If you are an undergraduate student, please fill out the Undergraduate Reenrollment Application and fax it to the Office of the Registrar at 541-346-6682.
  3. If you are a graduate student, please fill out the Permission to Re-Register Form and fax it to the Graduate School at 541-346-2220.
  4. Wait for your I-20 to come in the mail. This may take 2-3 weeks unless you have requested express mailing.
  5. Once you receive your new I-20 you will need to pay the SEVIS fee online. Instructions will be included with your new I-20, or you can click here for more information.
  6. You may also need to apply for a new F-1 visa if your F-1 visa will not be valid when you plan to re-enter the U.S. For more information about applying for a new F-1 visa, click here.

If you have been outside the U.S. for FEWER than 5 months:

  1. You may need to request a travel signature on your I-20 (with the same SEVIS ID).
    • Please look at the last page of your I-20 and check to see the most recent date that an advisor signed your I-20. If the signature is within five months of the date you plan to re-enter the U.S., your I-20 is valid and you can use it for travel to the U.S.
    • If the advisor's signature is more than five months from the date you plan to re-enter the U.S., your I-20 is NOT valid and you need a reprinted I-20 with a new signature for travel to the U.S.
  2. To request a reprinted I-20 for travel to the U.S., please fill out and submit the Reenrollment I-20 Request Form on-line. Wait for your I-20 to come in the mail. This may take 2-3 weeks unless you have requested express mailing
  3. If you are transferring back to the University of Oregon from another U.S. school, your SEVIS record will need to be released from your current school. Please fill out the Transfer In Form F-1 and give it to your current school. After the school transfers your SEVIS record to the UO, you will receive a new I-20 from the UO.
  4. You may also need to apply for a new F-1 visa if your F-1 visa will not be valid when you plan to re-enter the U.S. For more information about applying for a new F-1 visa, click here.
